Apology Necessary

This Apology goes out to Kayla, Katy, and Leah. For years I have harped on you guys for liking Celine Dion and her music. The truth is I have liked a few of her tunes, but not very many. Honestly, who could not like the title song from Titanic? I bought the single in the first few weeks of the movies release in theaters, not knowing that the song would stand atop the pop charts for 53 straight weeks. I also enjoyed the song she did for the Chrysler commercial a few years back. Other than that I can honestly say that I can't jam to any of her other stuff. Until now.

The other day I am jamming out in my car to K103 and all of a sudden a track gets spun that I really get into. I mean I am completely rocking out to this song. In my head and out loud to no one in particular I am thinking and shouting, stupid grin on my face, "who is this new rock queen???" About three minutes later I would find out just who it was and I went "WOW!" I could not believe that it was Celine. I heard the song again today and sang at the top of my lungs. Little did the person rocking out next to me in the Geo Metro realize I was kicking it with Celine.

So I got home and did a little Googling and found the song and the video on YouTube.

November 13th is the albums release date titled: Taking chances.

Stars

"Look up to the heavens it is there that you may find a glimpse of home."-Me

Strategic Withdrawal. A quote from David James Duncan-My story as told by water.

"when I am lost, God help me get more lost. Help me lose me so completely that nothing remains but the primordial peace and originality that keep creating and sustaining this blood-, tear-and love-worthy world that's never lost for an instant save by insufficiently lost me."
"We're all in the gutter," said Oscar Wilde in the throes of just such a withdrawal,"but some of us are looking at the stars"
strategic withdrawal:
look at the stars.

Please not: Withdrawal is usually the term used to define one who is coming out of drug abuse or an addiction to drugs, here that is not the case. It is talking about withdrawal from a world where we find ourselves dependent on so many unnecessary things.

I find hope in the words above. I cannot place the whole entirety of the passage on here, but know this, I had an AWE moment after I read those words. the reason is because I truly miss my intended home with My Creator King. I long for it, I am connected to it, my souls beats for it. I have multiple withdrawals weekly from this addictive world. I take a few moments and stare up at the night sky and dream. I find myself lost and at peace and oddly enough a little closer to home. I find that I am closer to God when I look at the heavens and yet so small in the grand scheme of things. I find that worship screams out of my lungs much richer and brighter when I look at the stars. And as Jon Foreman put it so perfectly, "When I look at the stars I feel like myself."

I don't know about you, but where or what is the place or thing that you can retreat to and connect with home again? Where is that special trysting place that you secretly long for and pine for? Where do you feel like yourself?

Check out this site: Astronomy Picture of the Day. Might help you find yourself.

Gosford Park is actually good!

I watched this movie when it first came out in 2001, but did not realize how good it actually is. Robert Altman has assembled an amazing cast and a brilliant script. Although there are times when the story feels slow, nothing is left out and everything is important to the movie. The real gem however lies in the short concert given in the middle of the flick by Jeremy Northam. I was compelled to do a little Google search of the songs Northam sings. Below is the first two songs; The land of might have been and I can give you starlight. Rich, poetic, and lovely.

Somewhere there's another land different from this world below.
Far more mercifully planned than the cruel place we know.
Innocence and peace are there. All is good that is desired.
Faces there are always fair. Love grows never old nor tired.
We shall never find that lovely land of Might-Have-Been.
I shall never be your king nor you shall be my queen.
Days may pass and years may pass and seas may lie between.
We shall never find that lovely land of Might-Have-Been.
Sometimes on the rarest nights comes the vision calm and clear,
Gleaming with unearthly lights on my path of doubt and fear.
Winds from that far land are blown, whispering with secret breath.
Hope that plays her tune alone. Love that conquers pain and death.
Shall we ever find that lovely land of Might-Have-Been?
Will I ever be your king or you at last my queen?
Days may pass or years may pass, the seas my lie between.
Shall we ever find our lovely land of Might-Have-Been?

I can give you the starlight, love unchanging and true.
I can give you the ocean, deep and tender devotion.
I can give you the mountains, pools of shimmering blue.
Call and I can be all you ask of me.
Music in spring, flowers for a king;
All these I bring to you.
When I was young, my foolish fancies used to make a great mistake.
But now a little love, a little living has changed my ways
And taught me and brought me the joy of giving.
I can give you the starlight, love unchanging and true.
I can give you the ocean, deep and tender devotion.
I can give you the mountains, pools of shimmering blue.
Call and I can be all you ask of me.
Music in spring, flowers for a king;
All these I bring to you.

We are going on a treasure hunt!

On Monday afternoon Amber, Erin, Burke, Benny (with puppy) and I went Geo-caching. For three of us this was our first Cache outing. Here is a brief description of what Caching is: (taken from Wikipidea) an outdoor treasure-hunting game in which the participants use a Global Positioning System (GPS) receiver or other navigational techniques to hide and seek containers (called "geocaches" or "caches") anywhere in the world. A typical cache is a small waterproof container containing a logbook and "treasure," usually toys or trinkets of little value. Today, well over 440,000 geocaches are registered on various websites devoted to the sport. Geocaches are currently placed in 222 countries around the world and on all seven continents, including Antarctica. We chose to do three caches which were relatively close to each other. We found two of three caches and were actually quite excited for these new adventures, but the true adventure happened on our first stab at finding the first cache.

It happened to be located under a bridge so the GPS was telling us, but when we got under the bridge we found a completely different treasure. Under the bridge was a whole tent city with a sitting room, kitchen and electricity. We decided that maybe the cache wasn't so important after all. I will never cross that bridge again without thinking about the people who live beneath it.I will be praying for them. Burke said she was going to try and get some food to them at some point. If anyone else would like to donate some food to Burke just let me know and I will make it happen.

Overall the treasure that we found were simply the best one by far was the city 'neath the bridge.

I hope to go caching again soon.
